The origin of the Solidarity Room
The room with a view of a better world.
In June 2020, after the challenging period of confinement, ARTIEM decided to reopen its hotels with a new proposal: to donate 100% of the amount from the first weekend’s reservations to Caritas. This is how the “Solidarity Room” initiative was born, aiming to support those who needed it most during these difficult times. Since then, the “Solidarity Room” has surpassed all expectations, reaching €300,000 in fundraising and expanding nationwide.
Thanks to our partnership with Caritas, our Solidarity Room has evolved into a Room with a view of a better world, with more accommodations joining the cause, amplifying the positive impact and ensuring that more help reaches those in need every day.
In December 2021, we signed a collaboration agreement with the president of Caritas Spain and the Madrid Hotel Business Association, promoting this extraordinary initiative started by ARTIEM during the pandemic. All hotels in Madrid offering this new type of room, and facilitating access to it through their booking channels, contribute to improving the quality of life for many people living in poverty and social exclusion that Caritas supports. Caritas has also created a dedicated website for the Solidarity Room, providing detailed information about the initiative.
What does the solidarity room consist of?
At ARTIEM, and now in other hotels across the country, we offer our guests a Solidarity Room in each of our five hotels, with 100% of the booking amount going to Caritas. Those who wish to enjoy the ARTIEM experience while making a difference can book the Solidarity Room through our website.
We are extremely excited about the results and the impact we’ve achieved. The Solidarity Room has not only inspired and motivated others but has also demonstrated how solidarity can drive positive and sustainable change.
The Solidarity Room beyond Cáritas
In addition to collaborating with Caritas, our Solidarity Room extends its reach further. At ARTIEM, we partner with Triodos Bank, another B Corp company, which through its Foundation offers a Matchfunding platform—a project financing model that combines citizen support through crowdfunding with institutional or corporate backing. The funds raised are used to support local projects with high impact diversity: agriculture, social, environmental, and more.
Triodos Bank has made our Solidarity Room available to its clients, who can book the room through their platform and choose which project to support with their reservation money. Since the start of this collaboration, we have raised over €20,000 for various projects. When two B Corp companies join forces, exceptional things happen, and we are excited to see the positive impact we can achieve together.
B CORP and IMPACT +
ARTIEM is the first hotel chain in Europe to obtain B Corp certification, promoting a business model based on a more equitable, inclusive, and regenerative economy. This recognition reinforces our desire to be the best hotels for the world and aligns with our mission to inspire happiness. Since its founding in Menorca in 1974, ARTIEM has been an active player in the local ecosystem, a commitment that extends beyond Menorca to Madrid and Asturias, with a total of five hotels. To systematically reduce its environmental impact, among other actions, ARTIEM launched the ARTIEM 8/80 Sustainability project in 2018, aiming to cut CO2 emissions by 80% over 8 years. This project involves researching available technologies, analyzing emission reduction potential, and estimating implementation costs and payback periods.
Ultimately, we do all this to further our purpose of INSPIRING PEOPLE TO BE HAPPY.
